1. Have visual reminders of your goals.
Remind yourself daily why you are saving money and budgeting yourself. Perhaps you want to buy a house, or pay off student loans. Find pictures to remind you of these goals and post them for motivation.
2. Make it a group effort.
Have all of the members of your family get on board. This is a task that everyone needs to be part of, not just you. Hold regular family meetings to talk about the family budget and how you will collectively work towards it.
3. Avoid temptation.
Don’t allow yourself to fall into situations where you will be tempted. This may be malls, favorite restaurants, clothing shops, etc. Find another activity instead that you still enjoy but costs less. I share several tips here on keeping yourself out of debt. Now is not the time to accumulate more.

Visit a local library to check out books on budgeting, thrifty living, and financial freedom. Try to learn something new each week to help you better manage your money.
6. When you fall, get back up.
If you have a slip (like now). Be sure to forgive yourself and get back up. Don’t get the mentality that the day or week is lost just because you messed up. Vow to try harder and continue toward your goal.
